PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE: The tax season has passed, and the weather so far has been nothing but adventure-encouraging. The rainy days are over, and so are the long days at the office. I always look forward to the after-tax season time, because I once again have time to do things I like. I don't look at my watch thinking that now I have 6.5 hours left to sleep...6.25...5.50... I like getting back together with my friends, going places, and spending more time with my six-year-old who is truly amazing in the way he perceives the world and people. It is so inspiring to see how happy one lollipop makes him. It is amazing how simple our life can be. He makes me more appreciative of what I have. The end of April and early May is also a good time to catch up on my CPEs and all of the professional magazines I accumulated during last two month for after the tax season reading.
I am so blessed knowing so many dedicated women I've met through ASWA! I know that my success would not have happened without your support, encouragement, and your strong and slender shoulders you offer for me to lean on. Once again- don't ever underestimate the networking! Our life is full of surprises and you never know what is waiting for you around the corner. If you are looking for a new job - just spread the word... if you got a new job - just let us know! We will be happy for you!
On that note, we are still forming our Board and committees for the upcoming 2012-2013 fiscal year. If you are interested in improving your skills with the full support of fellow membership and expanding your network, do not hesitate to jump in and take on one or two tasks. I promise that you will grow personally and professionally in our warm and caring environment. Please see the newsletter posted on our website for the list of positions, committees and their duties. To enable women in all fields of accounting to achieve their personal, professional and economic potential and to contribute to the future development of the profession.
Our History
The American Society of Women Accountants is a professional organization whose purpose is to advance the interest of women in all fields of accounting and finance. The society was founded in 1938 and since then, has grown to include more than 100 chapters throughout the United States with approximately 6,000 members. Membership has been open to men since 1974.
ASWA members work at all levels of the accounting profession, from individual practitioners to entry- and top-level positions in industry and government and from juniors to partners in major accounting firms.
ASWA members can be found throughout the economy from academia and government to the private and public sectors. Members are highly educated, well-informed professionals and take part in a wide spectrum of activities including art, athletics, law, family life, music, travel and volunteerism.
