Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

The Sacramento Chapter of ASWA sponsors a VITA site annually and all chapter members and friends are invited to volunteer.  Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) volunteers provide FREE Income Tax Preparation Assistance to low-Income, elderly, disabled and limited English speaking people.

Volunteers get FREE training and certification by the IRS.  This year’s required VITA training class was held on Saturday, January 8th, 2011 and eight hours of CPE is available for all who complete the course.  Training will take place at the ITT Institute Room #T7 located at 10863 Gold Center Drive in Rancho Cordova.

The 2011 program will operate on Saturdays throughout February and March on the following dates:
            February 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th
            March 5th, 12th, and 19th

The ASWA sponsored VITA program is held at the following location:
            Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center
            450 West El Camino Avenue
            Sacramento, CA  95833

Volunteers arrive at the Stanford Settlement by 9:45 am and are generally finished by about 2 pm.  There are several types of volunteer positions available at the site, some of which require IRS VITA certification and some of which are open to all volunteers.

If you would like more information on IRS VITA certification, would like to sign-up to volunteer on the VITA Committee, or have any additional questions, please contact Heidi Li, VITA Committee Chairperson or Marjorie Schultz, ASWA President.
